More Employment Standards Webinars Now Available

Alberta Labour has made Employment Standards webinars available covering a variety of subjects with regards to the new legislation and regulations that came into effect on January 1, 2018.

Overview of changes to Employment standards – Thursday, March 15, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

This information session provides a general overview of the changes to Employment Standards that came into effect on January 1, 2018. Moderators will answer questions throughout the webinar. Topics will include:

  • key employment standards rules and entitlements that had updates
  • what rules and entitlements are new in employment standards, including job-protected leaves
  • what is an administrative penalty system and other changes to administration and enforcement
  • where to find additional information about employment standards

Averaging Agreements – Wednesday, March 21, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

This information session explains Employment Standards rules for Averaging Agreements, which came into effect on January 1, 2018. Moderators will answer questions throughout the webinar. Topics will include:

  • who’s eligible and what’s required for flexible averaging agreements and hours of work averaging agreements
  • notifying employees of an agreement and changes made to it
  • hours of work requirements for these agreements
  • changes to work schedules for these agreements
  • calculating, paying, and banking overtime
  • flexible time and missed shifts
  • terminating, cancelling, or ending an agreement
  • sample FAA and HWAA agreements, including examples of scheduling and overtime calculations
  • ‘how to address previous compressed work week arrangements

General Holidays, General Holiday Pay and Vacations – Tuesday, March 27, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

This information session explains Employment Standards rules for General Holidays, General Holiday Pay, Vacations and Vacation Pay that came into effect on January 1, 2018. Moderators will answer questions throughout the webinar. Topics will include:

  • what they are
  • when employees are eligible or ineligible
  • what exceptions to the rules exist for General Holiday Pay and Vacation Pay
  • how to calculate and distribute pay
  • how general holiday pay and vacation pay can affect one another
  • how to address these topics when termination of employment occurs

Hours of Work and Pay – Tuesday, April 3, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

This information session explains Employment Standards rules for Hours of Work and Pay, which came into effect on January 1, 2018. Moderators will answer questions throughout the webinar. Topics will include:

  • minimum wage, payment of earnings, deductions, hours of work, overtime, and rest
  • employee eligibility requirements and entitlements, and employer obligations for these
  • who is exempt from and what exceptions exist for the standard rules
  • how to calculate and pay out or bank overtime
  • what to do with payment of earnings and overtime when termination of employment occurs
